Am I the only one who learned heat control by nearly lighting my backyard on fire?
Tbh, that panic moment fixed my temperature swings forever.

Yeah, what was the actual mistake that almost started the fire? Like, were you just leaving it totally unattended or using way too much lighter fluid? That kind of scare forces you to learn real quick.

Walked away for a "quick minute" with the vents wide open on a windy day. Flames jumped the grate and caught some dry grass. Total dumb move. Now I always use a two-zone setup, coals piled high on one side only. Lets you slide stuff over to chill or come back to sear, no more runaway infernos. That scare is the best teacher you never wanted.
