My barber in Phoenix told me he doesn't use mirrors on himself, and it messed with my head
I sat in his chair 3 weeks ago and he said he trims his own hair by feel alone, which sounded insane until I tried it on my beard and got a shockingly clean line. Is he just lucky, or is there something to going off touch instead of sight?
Man, I gotta push back on the "by feel alone" part, because your barber almost certainly checks his work in a mirror after. Muscle memory and touch can get you surprisingly far, but nobody freehands the back of their own head without some kind of sanity check, they just don't mention it. Your beard came out clean because short strokes with a razor give your hand way more feedback than you'd expect, so both things are true here.
