Spent $80 on a pair of thinning shears that turned out to be junk

Bought some budget thinning shears off an online wholesaler six months ago and they started pulling hair instead of cutting clean after three weeks. Had to rebook a whole afternoon when a regular complained about snags. Anyone else stick to the name brand stuff for shears no matter the price?

You say "pulling hair instead of cutting clean after three weeks" but honestly that sounds like a keeper issue not a shear issue. I've used $30 shears from random shops for years and they work FINE as long as I oil them every week and never drop them. Most of these problems come from people not maintaining cheap tools and then blaming the price tag.

@robertb47 you said "never drop them" and that's actually a huge point. How many people dropping their cheap shears once and then complaining? I've seen guys drop $200 shears and they're done too. Dropping any shear ruins the edge alignment. The real question is what's your actual oiling routine? Like do you oil them after every single use or just once a week? Because "once a week" sounds light for someone doing multiple dogs a day. I oil mine before every dog and wipe them down with alcohol between. That's probably why my cheap ones last. Also what brand of $30 shears are you using? I need a backup pair that won't break the bank.

I read a study once that said 90% of shear damage comes from drops and bad storage.
