The sourdough I swore I'd never try, now I'm on day 9 of feeding it
I always said sourdough was for people with too much time, then last Saturday my neighbor handed me a jar of her 3 year old starter and dared me to kill it. I messed up the first loaf bad, crust like a brick and the inside was basically raw dough. But I tried her exact method with a cast iron dutch oven and the second one had that ear and crackle, totally got me hooked. Now I'm up at 6am feeding the thing and defending its weird smell to my husband. Has anyone else gone from hating the fuss to being the weirdo with the sourdough jar?
Well now, sounds like youve got a full blown hobby on your hands. Dont you think 6am feedings are a bit much for something you could just buy at the bakery? That starter is going to outlive your marriage if you keep coddling it like a pet. I get the appeal of a good crust, but you might want to pace yourself before you start naming the jar and taking it on vacation.
