PSA: The bakery on 5th Ave is selling rock-hard bagels as 'artisanal'

I went there yesterday morning and paid $4 for a bagel that could have doubled as a hockey puck. The cashier just shrugged when I pointed it out, saying 'that's how they come out of the oven.' Has anyone else had a total fail from a place that should know better?

That "hockey puck" line is perfect. I once bought a croissant from a fancy spot that shattered like glass when I tried to tear it. Sometimes you pay extra just for the right to be disappointed.

Oh man, that's the worst. It's like they're selling you the idea of a croissant, not the actual thing. You end up with a bag of fancy crumbs and a lesson learned.
