Neighbor's sourdough starter ate my fridge, literally
Last weekend my neighbor Carol handed me her 2 week old sourdough starter in a mason jar and said "just feed it once a day, it's basically a pet" but I forgot to loosen the lid and it exploded all over my deli drawer, coating my turkey and cheese in fermented goo. I spent an hour scrubbing sticky sludge off every shelf and my fridge still smells like a brewery, plus Carol now wants her jar back and I'm too embarrassed to admit what happened. Has anyone else had a starter blow up on them, or is my fridge just cursed?

...and honestly, the real issue might be that the jar was too full to start with. A sourdough starter doubles or triples in size after feeding, so leaving just an inch of headroom is basically asking for a mess. Your fridge probably isn't cursed, just give the jar a good rinse with warm water and tell Carol you spilled it, she'll understand, starters are sticky business for everyone.
