My aunt's Thanksgiving pie crust burned in 4 minutes, and it taught me to check my oven temp
I was at my aunt's house in Toledo for Thanksgiving two years ago, helping her with the pies. She put the pumpkin pie in at 375 like the recipe said, and 4 minutes later the crust edges were already black. Nobody could figure out why until my cousin pulled out an oven thermometer and it turned out her oven ran almost 50 degrees hot. Since then I bought my own thermometer for $8 and now I check it once a month, which has saved a lot of cookies and cakes at my place. The weird part is her oven had been running hot for who knows how long and she just thought she was bad at baking. Has anyone else had an oven that lied to them like that, and did you get it fixed or just adjust your recipes?
