Warning about that new 'fast-acting' yeast from the brand with the red label

A baker at the Portland market told me it was making her sourdough starter sluggish, and switching back to my old brand fixed it in two days. Anyone else have issues with it killing natural yeast activity?

That "sluggish" starter detail is interesting. Did the baker mention if it was a problem with brand new starters, or did it also mess with established ones that were doing fine before?

Ugh, both. My starter's basically a pet rock now.

Oh man, a pet rock starter is too real. I once forgot mine in the back of the fridge for so long it separated into this weird gray liquid on top of a cement brick. Took me a week of daily feeds to get it to even bubble again. Felt like I was doing sourdough CPR on a lump of floury regret.
