Just realized my old roommate in Phoenix left a note about the dishes and I still think about it 3 years later
Back in 2022 I lived with a guy named Derek in a two bedroom off 7th Ave in Phoenix, and we had one rule about dishes: whoever cooks, the other one cleans. Simple, right? Well Derek cooked maybe twice a month and I cooked almost every night, so the sink would pile up and he'd just walk past it like it wasn't there. After about four months I finally said something and he left a note on the fridge that said, and I quote, "I'll do them when I feel like it, not on your schedule." That note stayed up for six days. Here's where I go back and forth: part of me thinks I was too uptight and should have just let it ride, but the other part thinks basic shared space stuff shouldn't need a formal system. My sister says I should have just stopped cooking for both of us and let him figure out his own meals, which honestly I never tried. Was I the problem for keeping score, or was he the problem for treating the kitchen like a hotel? Would love to hear what actually worked for people in this spot.
