Vent: my smoke alarm chirped for 3 hours and it was a spider
Honestly I spent 3 hours on a step ladder at 11pm swapping batteries in my smoke alarm, and it kept chirping every 40 seconds like clockwork. Turned out a tiny spider had crawled into the sensor chamber, so I vacuumed it out and the noise stopped in about 10 seconds. My neighbor Dave heard me cussing through the wall and came over with a flashlight, and we both just stood there laughing. Has anyone else lost a fight to a bug inside a dumb household gadget?
The part about the spider crawling into the sensor chamber is blowing my mind because I always assumed those things only went off for actual smoke or dead batteries. The idea that a bug the size of a crumb can trigger the same alarm that's supposed to save your life is wild to me. That chirp every 40 seconds is designed to drive you insane until you fix it, and you're up there at 11pm swapping batteries like a fool while the real culprit is just chilling in there. Three hours of ladder work for a ten second vacuum job is painful. Dave showing up with a flashlight is the best part, that's a real neighbor.
