I met a guy named Ray at the Burlington garden swap on Saturday and he asked why my carrot rows were so far apart (I had them 8 inches, he said 3 to 4 is plenty). I tried his spacing on a 6 foot row and just pulled 19 carrots instead of the usual 9 from that same patch. Guess the loose soil does the work when the seeds are close enough to shade out the weeds. Anyone else had luck going tighter with their carrot spacing, or does it backfire on you?
