Showerthought: My neighbor's tomato advice is useless if he won't even try a Cherokee Purple.

Yeah calling his advice "useless" is a real stretch. Good tomato growing basics are the same for most varieties, sun, water, staking, all that. He might have decades of experience with other types that translates perfectly. Acting like Cherokee Purple is some magical alien plant that changes everything is just gardener snobbery.

Man, you hit the nail on the head. The basics really are the same for like 95% of it. I grew Cherokee Purples last year and yeah, they needed a bit more water than my romas, but that's just paying attention, not some secret knowledge. Some folks just love to make simple things seem complicated so they feel special.

Used to roll my eyes at generic tomato advice too, figured heirlooms were a whole different game. Then my Black Krims thrived on the same sun, water, and cage routine as my early girls. Made me realize I was overcomplicating it to feel like a better gardener.
