Shelled out $70 on a drip kit for my raised beds and now I feel like a fool for hand watering for 3 summers
Honestly I always thought drip irrigation was for people with big farms or way more money than sense. I have four 4x8 raised beds out back in my yard here in Boise and I'd been dragging the hose around every night after work, sometimes twice a day when it got over 95. My neighbor Dana kept saying I was wasting my evenings, but I figured a $70 kit was just fancy plastic that would clog up in a season. Then we got that stretch of 100 degree days in July and half my lettuce bolted while my squash leaves went crispy, and I finally ordered one. Took me maybe an hour and a half to run the lines and poke in the emitters, and I did not touch a hose for the rest of the summer. Water bill went down about $12 a month too, which I did not expect at all. The tomatoes ended up bigger than anything I grew before, swear the steady water made the difference. So yeah, I was wrong and Dana was right, and she has not let me forget it. Anyone running drip on a timer, or do you just turn the spigot by hand?
