Rant: my tomatoes split after 2 days of rain and I lost about 15 pounds of fruit
We got 4 inches of rain here in Lexington over two days last week and I watched my 8 Better Boy plants go from perfect to cracked open almost overnight. I picked about 15 pounds of split tomatoes on Wednesday morning and most of them had to get eaten right away or tossed in the freezer for sauce. The worst part is I watered deep all summer to keep things even, then Mother Nature decided to dump a whole month of rain on me in 48 hours. I bagged maybe 6 pounds for the neighbors and turned the rest into 9 jars of sauce on Saturday. Anyone got a trick for keeping fruit from splitting when a storm rolls in, or do I just need to pick everything half ripe when I see rain in the forecast?
