Question about planting tomatoes too close together
I was out in my patch in Portland yesterday and realized my tomato plants were all fighting for light. They were only about a foot apart because I wanted more plants in my small space. The leaves were all yellow at the bottom and the fruit was tiny. Has anyone else crammed them in and had the same problem?

My San Marzanos last year were a foot apart and got blight.

Yeah, that spacing will do it. Mine got hit hard too until I started giving them way more room. I plant mine at least two feet apart now, sometimes three if I can. Lets air move through and the leaves dry out faster after rain. Also started using a basic copper fungicide spray every couple weeks as a preventative. Made a huge difference last season.

My neighbor in Seattle tried one-foot spacing last summer. The plants got so tangled they basically strangled each other. You really need that two-foot minimum for air flow.
