PSA: I used to dump coffee grounds straight on my tomatoes till a guy at the Tacoma farmers market set me straight
For 4 years I just dumped wet coffee grounds right at the base of my tomato plants, probably 2 cups a day, and wondered why the leaves went yellow by August. A guy running a booth in Tacoma asked what I was doing and said grounds this fresh pull nitrogen while they break down, so the plant starves while the pile rots. Now I compost them with dry leaves for 6 to 8 weeks first and my Cherokee Purples finally set fruit past July. Do you all compost grounds first or does fresh work fine for you?
