Neighbor said my raised beds were too narrow, she was right after 2 seasons

Built four 2 foot wide beds when I started. My neighbor Carol, who's been growing here for 20 years, looked at them and said "you'll regret that when your tomatoes hit August." Laughed it off. Second year the plants just flopped everywhere and I couldn't reach the middle without stepping on soil. Ripped them out last fall, rebuilt at 4 feet wide with paths between. Night and day difference for air flow and picking. Anyone else stubbornly stick with a design until someone older calls it out?
