Vent: my paver base took three weekends instead of one
I pulled up the old concrete slab behind my garage in March and figured I'd have the paver patio done in a weekend. The dirt under it was pure clay, so every rain turned it into soup and I had to dig out 6 inches and haul it off myself. It ended up taking three full weekends plus a $180 rental on a plate compactor to get a base that would actually hold. If you're planning a 12x14 patio, measure your soil before you buy pavers, not after. What did you use to deal with bad drainage under a patio?
