TIL a $9 bag of paver sand fixed the puddling on my patio, not the 40 pound bags
We put in a 12x14 paver patio behind the house 2 summers back and it has puddled near the grill ever since. I kept adding more sand and tamping and watering and it just moved the low spot around. A guy at the stone yard in Boise finally asked me how thick my lifts were and I had to admit I was dumping 2 inch layers at a time. He said to go 1/4 inch at a time, mist it, and let it sit overnight before the next pass. Took me 3 evenings instead of 1, but the water runs off the edge now instead of sitting there for days. Anyone else fight a birdbath in their pavers, and did you regrade the base or just live with it?

Did you also figure out the hard way that thin lifts beat one big dump?
