Am I the only one who thought gravel patios were lazy until my concrete cracked after one winter?
Last fall in Fort Worth I poured a 10x12 concrete pad for our fire pit area, and by February it had two big cracks running right through the middle. I was ready to tear the whole thing out and start over, but my neighbor Dan said to just lay gravel on top instead and save myself 800 bucks. I figured it would look cheap, but I put down 3 inches of pea gravel over the slab and it actually looks better than the concrete ever did. Now I'm wondering why I ever thought poured concrete was the only real option back there. Anybody else switch to gravel after a slab failed on them?
