The AT data book hype actually held up for me in Virginia
I spent three years ignoring everyone who swore by the official data book, figured my phone app was fine. Then my battery died for two days straight near Daleville and I had to rely on a printed copy some guy at a hostel gave me. The water source mileages were spot on, down to the tenth of a mile, and I found two creeks I would've totally missed otherwise. I still used the app after that but always kept the book as backup. Has anyone else had a route guide you dismissed turn out to be the real deal?
