Got roasted on a trail forum for my Mount Whitney plan and I'm glad they did
I posted a 2 day out and back plan for the Whitney Trail last month and a guy with the username trailhunter88 tore it apart in the comments. He pointed out I had zero miles above 10k feet in my log and that going from sea level in Lone Pine to Trail Camp in one push was asking for trouble. I was annoyed for a day, then looked at my past hikes and realized he was right, my highest peak before that was only 8,400 feet. So I rebuilt the route to add two nights at Horseshoe Meadows first and a rest day at Consultation Lake before the summit push. My new plan is 4 days total and I'm budgeting one extra day of food in case the altitude hits me hard. Has anyone here done the Horseshoe Meadows acclimation trip before Whitney, and did 2 nights feel like enough?
