Chose the high route over the creek trail in Eagle Cap, glad I did
Last month I was planning a 3 day loop in the Eagle Cap Wilderness and had to pick between the West Fork Trail or the higher ridge line. I went with the ridge because the forecast showed rain and I figured less mud. Turned out the views were amazing but the wind was brutal on day 2, maybe 40 mph gusts above treeline. The creek trail would have been calmer but I would have missed the wildflower patches near Horseshoe Lake. Has anyone else taken both routes and compared the water access? I'm curious if the creek side really has more reliable spots to filter.
