Vent: I thought the 'look it in the eye' trick for public speaking was nonsense until I tried it at a wedding in Boise
Last month I had to give a toast at my cousin's wedding in Boise, and I was dreading it because I always get shaky and stare at the floor. A friend told me to pick one person in the crowd and look them in the eye for a full sentence before moving on, which sounded like made-up self-help junk. But I tried it on the groom's dad, and my voice stopped wobbling after about ten seconds. It felt weird and a little intense, but the rest of the toast went fine. Has anyone else tried this, or do you have a different trick that actually works?
