Traced a phantom voltage spike to a faulty bonding strap.
We kept getting erratic readings on the fuel quantity indicators. After a lot of testing, I found a loose bonding strap creating a voltage differential. Always verify bonding integrity during inspections.

That's usually a voltage difference, not a spike, but the strap fix is key.

Tell you what, my last 'voltage difference' looked an awful lot like a spike when the magic smoke came out. Always mix up the fancy terms right before I fry something. The strap is basically my apology to innocent electronics everywhere. Should probably wear one when I open my mouth too.

The fancy name doesn't matter once the part is dead. A strap is just good sense for anything that costs more than a burger. It's cheap insurance against a very expensive bad day.
