Old guy at the parts counter fixed my whole day with one sentence
Stopped by Napa in Phoenix around 3pm to grab a water pump for a 2005 Civic. The counter guy, maybe 70 years old, saw me second-guessing the gasket kit and goes "son, the gasket is the cheap part, the come-back is the expensive one." That hit different after a rough morning where I'd already fought a seized bolt for an hour. He was right, I replaced the gasket and the pump, customer came back happy two weeks later. Anyone else have a random counter person drop wisdom on you like that?
Was it really wisdom though or just a guy who's seen enough comebacks to know the math? Sounds like solid advice for a shop, but a DIY guy saving cash on his own car might feel different.
