Just had a customer bring in their Ford F-150 from 2018 with a coolant leak that turned out to be from the plastic thermostat housing. The whole intake had to come off. Cost them over $1200.

Ever wonder if the push for lighter cars for better gas mileage is making these plastic parts fail sooner? @jamesm38 is right they always go, but maybe the real problem is they're being asked to do too much. That's a nasty trade-off for saving a few bucks at the pump.

That "nasty trade-off" is EXACTLY why my last car turned into a plastic rattletrap.

Plastic parts in hot engines always fail.
