I finally got the old shop air compressor running after three days of work
It's a 1980s Ingersoll Rand that sat in the back of my uncle's garage for a decade. I spent hours cleaning the tank, replacing the check valve, and hunting down a new pressure switch. When it finally kicked on and held 150 psi, the whole shop smelled like old oil and victory. Anyone else have a story about bringing a piece of old shop gear back from the dead?

Wait, you just fired up a tank that sat for ten years? I would have been scared to death it would blow a hole in the wall. That's some serious trust in your cleaning job.

That "old oil and victory" smell is the best part... like the machine's thanking you.

My grandpa's 1972 John Deere still has that exact smell. It's like the ghosts of every harvest are in the air.
