Dropped $180 on a bolt extractor kit after snapping a caliper bracket bolt in Spokane, and it paid for itself in 20 minutes
Had a 2014 Civic in the bay with a seized rear caliper bracket bolt that snapped flush with the knuckle. I fought it with vice grips and heat for 45 minutes before grabbing the $180 extractor set I'd been putting off buying for 2 years. Bit into that bolt and had it out in under 20 minutes, no drilling, no helicoil. What's your go-to when a bolt snaps flush, extractor kit or drill it out?
A 2014 Civic rear caliper bracket bolt snapping flush with the knuckle is my worst nightmare on a rust belt car. Twenty minutes with an extractor after 45 minutes of fighting it with vice grips and heat is wild. I've always been the guy who drills and taps because I never trusted those extractor bits to bite hard enough on a seized bolt. But hearing it came out with no drilling and no helicoil makes me want to finally buy a set. Spokane salt and winter road junk does awful things to undercarriage bolts.
