An old diesel mechanic told me to stop using synthetic oil in my 7.3 Powerstroke, and he was right
I had been running full synthetic in my 2000 F-250 for about two years. A guy named Bill at the local parts counter in Spokane said I was wasting money and actually making things worse. He said these old engines were designed for conventional 15w-40 and the synthetic was too thin at high temps. I thought he was just stuck in his ways. But after he showed me the oil analysis reports from his own truck, I switched back six months ago. No more top-ups between changes and the engine runs quieter at idle. Has anyone else had a similar experience with these 7.3s?

Used to think synthetic was always better but you just made me reconsider. Bill sounds like he knows his stuff, I might have to run an analysis on my own truck now.

My buddy ignored oil analysis and blew his engine last month. Bet @keith_rivera19 will save you that headache.
