The painter at the Dayton shop who made me strip a whole door to bare metal, and he was right
Back in March I was at a shop off Third Street in Dayton helping a buddy spray a door skin, and an old painter named Ray stopped me cold and told me to take the whole thing down to bare metal. I argued for 10 minutes about sanding sealer and primer over the old finish, but he pointed at these tiny lifting bubbles near the belt line that I had totally missed. Stripping it back showed rust creeping under the old paint from a previous hack repair. Now I want to hear how you all decide when a panel needs full stripping versus a good scuff, because I clearly was guessing.
