Switched from masking tape to fineline tape for two tone jobs last week and I'm kicking myself
Did a two tone on a silver Tacoma last week, cab roof black over the silver body, and I had always just used regular masking tape with a plastic sheet for the break line. Pulled it off wet and got that fuzzy edge on the black side, so I had to sand and redo the whole rear cab corner, which ate up almost a whole afternoon. My buddy who runs a shop over in Mesa told me to try the 3M fineline tape on the next one, that thin green stuff, and I finally grabbed a roll for 12 bucks. The difference is night and day, the tape bends around the curves without wrinkling and the edge comes out razor sharp when you pull it while the clear is still a little soft. I did a white over blue job on a Civic after that and the line looked like it came from the factory. Now I mask the whole car with cheap tape and only use the fineline for the actual break, saves money and the sharp edge is where it counts. What are you guys using for two tone breaks, and does the pull time really matter that much on the slower clears?
