Just realized the heat gun trick on a dented plastic bumper from a 2011 Civic saved me a full respray
I used to just replace bumpers when they got pushed in, but a guy at the shop in Reno showed me how to warm the plastic from the back with a $40 heat gun and push it out with a wooden spoon, and it popped back so clean I only needed a little filler and blend, so what other old school tricks are you all using that still beat buying new parts?
Heat guns are fine for a quick pop but that plastic gets brittle after and the paint never sits right on a spot that's been warmed and stretched. Half the bumpers I see come through with heat gun marks end up spider cracking six months later. Wooden spoon trick works, sure, but I'd rather pull the thing and do it right than gamble on a cheap fix holding up.
