Unpopular opinion: Ponce City Market's food hall is overrated and overpriced

I went there last weekend for the first time in like 2 years... spent $18 on a sandwich that was barely average. The whole place felt like a food court for tourists, not locals. I miss when that building was just empty and weird. Anyone else skip it and hit up Buford Highway instead?

Used to defend that place to friends but after going back last month I totally get it now. The energy there is just off, feels like everyone is lining up for overpriced tacos because they saw it on Instagram. Buford Highway is where the real food is, no contest. That sandwich you got for $18 probably would have been $8 on Buford and twice as good. Miss when PCM was just a weird empty building too, way more character.

I hear you on the Instagram crowd, that part is hard to argue with. But I actually think PCM has gotten better since they started filling it up. That weird empty building vibe you miss was mostly just a place to walk through and leave after five minutes. Now I can grab a decent sit-down meal, hit that board game spot with my buddies, and still find parking in the deck without too much hassle. Buford Highway is unbeatable for cheap authentic food, no doubt, but PCM has its own thing going with variety and atmosphere that Buford just cant match because its spread out over miles. Don't you think places like that serve a different purpose than a strip mall with great dumplings?

$18 for a sandwich that tastes like regret and influencer tears, nice. Buford Highway would've given you the same thing for $8 with actual flavor and maybe a side of life advice from the owner. PCM is just a mall with a parking deck where you pay extra for the privilege of being in a photo background.
