Rant: my garage door died at 6:45am on a Tuesday and I'm getting wild quotes from contractors
So my garage door opener gave out two Tuesdays ago, right as I was leaving for work at 6:45am. It made this awful grinding noise, then just hung there about two feet off the ground and wouldn't move. I ended up yanking the red cord and lifting it by hand, which took me like ten minutes and I nearly threw my back out. I called three different companies here in town for quotes and got $385, $620, and one guy who wanted $1,100 because he said the whole track needed replacing. Here's the thing, the door itself is only about 8 years old and looks fine to me. The cheap guy can come Thursday, the expensive one can come tomorrow, and I have no clue how to tell who's being straight with me. Anybody in Atlanta dealt with this before? I'm in Decatur if that matters for who you'd recommend.
Six forty five in the morning is a personal attack, honestly. The door picked the exact worst second to quit on you. Here's the part that gets me, a grand for the whole track on an 8 year old door that looks fine? That guy saw a tired person at 6:45am and did the math in his head.
