Why does nobody mention that stacking filters ruins sharpness on budget telescopes?

A guy on Cloudy Nights told me my stacked moon shots were soft because I had three cheap filters threaded together, and after removing two of them and using a single polarizer, the crater detail on my 2018 Lunar shots from the Mojave Desert got noticeably cleaner, so has anyone else found their multi-filter setup was the real problem?

A polarizer on its own is actually a big deal since it cuts down reflected light, which is half your problem with lunar contrast anyway. That triple-stack was probably scattering more than it was filtering, so the single glass did you a solid.
