Tried a $35 solar filter for my phone, got a sunspot surprise
I wanted to shoot the partial eclipse last weekend but didn't trust my old welding glass trick. Picked up one of those clip-on solar filters meant for smartphones for about $35. The first few shots were just a bright ball, but then I zoomed in and caught two sunspots near the limb. Honestly for the price it beat borrowing my buddy's big rig, but now I want something better. Has anyone else used a cheap filter and gotten decent results, or am I pushing my luck with this thing?
