Stacking 200 frames on my laptop gave me mushy stars, switching to 40 sharp ones fixed it

Kept throwing every sub into DeepSkyStacker and wondering why my Orion shots looked like cotton balls, turns out 140 of those frames were shot through thin clouds over my apartment in Phoenix. Dropped to the 40 cleanest ones and the trapezium finally popped out with actual points. Anyone else bin their subs this hard or am I tossing out good data?
