My Saturn shots looked blurry until I checked the collimation

I've been shooting Saturn for about 10 weeks with an 8 inch dob and a cheap planetary cam. First few nights the ring gaps looked mushy no matter how many frames I stacked. Last Tuesday I checked the laser collimator and the primary was off by almost a quarter inch. Fixed it in 20 minutes and the next night's capture was noticeably sharper. Same camera, same settings, same planet, completely different result. Has anyone else seen that big a jump from just collimation alone, or is there another step I should try next?
