My best Milky Way shot came from a night I almost skipped

Went out to Joshua Tree at 2am after a week of clouds, but my tripod leg snapped in the gravel and I ended up balancing the camera on a rock for a 25 second exposure, and it came out sharper than anything I've taken with proper gear, has anyone else had a lucky accident produce their best photo?

That "lucky accident" line is the real story, most of the time it's not luck but the fact you stopped stressing about the gear. When you're forced to work with broken junk, you go back to the basics of composition and light instead of fiddling with settings. Maybe the camera on the rock was the teacher the whole time.
