Finally got my first decent shot of Andromeda after 5 months of blurry blobs
I've been trying to photograph M31 from my backyard in Dayton since March and every single attempt came out as a smeared gray smudge. Turns out my problem was polar alignment being off by just a tiny bit, which stacked into star trails even at 30 second subs, and it took me getting a $40 green laser pointer to actually fix it. Last night I finally got 40 clean frames that stacked into something where you can actually see the dust lanes and I literally yelled in my yard at midnight. What was the dumb little thing that was wrecking your shots for way too long?
