That $40 car charger that fried my phone in 10 minutes flat
Bought a cheap USB car charger at a gas station outside Reno cause my phone was dying. Plugged it in and it worked for like 10 minutes, then my phone started getting super hot and shut off. When I got home the charging port was toast, had to pay $85 at a phone shop to fix it. That $40 charger cost me $125 total and almost erased all my photos. Has anyone else had a knockoff charger destroy their stuff or did I just get unlucky?
A $40 gas station charger outside Reno is basically a phone cremation service with a tip jar. Mine melted a charging cable in Yuma and I still sniff every USB port like it's milk.
This is the same thing as buying those $5 sunglasses at the beach that snap in half the second time you wear them, or those gas station phone cases that crack if you look at them wrong. You know it's junk when you buy it, but you're in a pinch so your brain goes "how bad could it be." Then it's bad. Same deal with cheap extension cords that get warm, knockoff power bricks for laptops, those dollar store charging cables that stop working after a week. The savings never hold up because the cheap version just breaks your more expensive stuff.
