A stranger's 2 minute comment at a bus stop in Portland still bugs me
Last Tuesday I was waiting for the 15 bus and this older guy starts talking about how people only ask questions to hear themselves think. He said 'you're not curious, you're just waiting to talk.' Then he walked off before I could say anything. Part of me thinks he was right, most of the questions I ask are just setups for my own stories. But another part thinks he was just a jerk projecting his own crap. Which side do you lean toward when someone calls you out like that?

That “waiting to talk” bit stings because there's a grain of truth in it, I've been guilty of that myself. For me, it helped to just own it with a quick “fair point” and then actually ask him a real follow-up question.
