TIL the $8 drain snake from the hardware store actually works after 15 years of calling a plumber
My kitchen sink clogged up again two weeks ago and I was ready to call the same plumber who has come out to my place in Toledo about six times over the years. My neighbor Carol told me to try a $8 drain snake from the hardware store first before spending $180 on a service call. I figured it was junk and would just push the clog deeper, but I gave it a shot on a Saturday morning. Twenty minutes of cranking and a gross pile of hair and grease later, the water ran clear. I sat there kind of stunned that I had paid someone hundreds of dollars over the years for something I could do myself. Now I'm wondering what else I've been writing checks for that I could just handle. Has anyone else had a cheap fix like this work better than the pro route?
