Switched from scrubbing the grill with a wire brush to a $6 pumice stone and it takes me 5 minutes instead of 20
Used to spend forever fighting burnt-on grease on my Weber kettle grates every Sunday. Wire brush, soap, soaked rags, the works. Then my neighbor Dale saw me cussing at it back in April and handed me one of those pumice grill stones he gets at the hardware store on Main. Warm the grate up, scrub it with the stone, done. Curls the gunk right off. What's everybody else using to clean their grates? I'm not going back but I'm curious if there's something even better.
Man, I used to roll my eyes at stuff like this because I figured a wire brush was all you needed and anything else was just a gimmick to sell you something. My grates were always a mess though, and I just accepted that an hour of soaking and scraping was part of the deal. Then my brother in law brought over one of those stones last summer and I watched him clean his grate in the time it took me to finish my coffee. I was wrong, plain and simple. The gunk just comes off in these little curls and you barely have to press down. I still keep a brush around for the loose ash but the stone does the real work now.
