Split my grocery budget into two trips, now I waste way less food

I used to do one big shop every Sunday. $200 gone in one cart. Then half the veggies went bad by Thursday. My neighbor said to split it into a Sunday run and a Wednesday run. Smaller list each time, only what I actually need for the next few days. Been doing it for 5 weeks now. I throw out maybe 10% of what I used to. But it costs me extra gas and time driving to the store twice. Is the trade-off worth it for you folks, or do you just plan better than I do?
