Spent $180 on a website builder for my side gig and got nothing but a headache
I want to give a heads up to anyone looking to set up a simple site for a small business or hobby. About six months ago I decided to finally make a website for my dog walking side gig here in Portland. I signed up for one of those all in one website builders that promised drag and drop ease for $180 a year. I spent three full weekends fighting with it, and the mobile version looked like a broken ransom note no matter what I did. When I tried to cancel, they told me I had to pay for the whole year anyway because I missed the 14 day window by two days. I even called their support line and got a guy who just kept repeating that the policy is the policy. I ended up paying a neighbor's kid 50 bucks to set up a basic page on a free host, and it works better than the fancy one ever did. Has anyone else been burned by one of these subscription site builders, and is there a simpler way you found that does not lock you in?
