My uncle swears by WD-40 on squeaky cabinet hinges, but my hardware store guy says it just gums them up later. Two sides, help me settle this
Last month my kitchen cabinets started squeaking so bad you could hear them from the hallway. My uncle, who has flipped houses in Akron for 20 years, told me to just hit the hinges with WD-40 and call it a day. So I did, and for about 2 weeks it was heaven. Then the squeak came back and honestly it sounded worse, and the guy at the hardware store on Main told me WD-40 is a water displacer, not a lube, and that it pulls in dust and turns into gunk. He handed me a $6 tube of white lithium grease instead. So who's right here? My uncle has fixed up more houses than I've ever walked into, but the store guy had a pretty solid point about the dust. Did I just make things worse, and do I need to clean the hinge pins before I grease them?
