I used to think my grandma's way of watering plants was a bit much

She'd use a turkey baster for each pot, but after my new cactus got root rot from a heavy pour, I tried her method and it's saved three succulents so far. Anyone else have a weird old trick that actually works?

Ever read about using ice cubes to water orchids? Sounded nuts to me, but my neighbor swears by it. She puts three cubes on the moss once a week, says it gives a slow melt so the roots don't drown. I tried it on a finicky phalaenopsis I was about to lose, and it finally bloomed. That slow drip really does mimic a light rain.

Honestly I tried the ice cube thing once and nearly killed a perfectly good orchid... turns out my version of "three cubes" was more like half the tray. My over-eager self flooded the poor thing and had to do emergency soggy moss surgery. It's a good trick if you can hold back, but my heavy hand still needs a watering can with clear marks on it.

Ever notice how the best fixes are often the simplest? Like we overthink stuff that just needs a slow, easy touch.
