Showerthought: That early dig at a local sacred site haunts me now

I remember when we would open burial grounds without asking the community first. In my experience, back in the 90s, the goal was to get artifacts, not think about who they meant something to. We once moved human remains to a museum without permission from the families tied to the land. It felt okay then, just how things were done. Now, I see it as a moral gray area that we ignored. Today, there are strict rules about working with people and returning items. It's better, but I still look back with some regret.

That line about "a moral gray area that we ignored" really hits. I see that pattern everywhere now, where stuff that was just normal is later seen as messed up. It's like society has these blind spots for a while, and then a bunch of people wake up at the same time and go, oh wait, that was actually bad. We used to just accept things because that's how it was done, no questions asked. It's wild how much you can overlook when you're not the one getting hurt.
